CVE-2020-10868Public exploit

Privilege escalation via Repair App RPC

Published Apr 1, 2020 · Updated Aug 4, 2024

Privilege escalation in Avast Antivirus before 20 allows local users to launch the Repair App through the aswTask RPC endpoint. The TaskEx library endpoint in AvastSvc.exe accepts a call from a Low Integrity process and invokes the Repair App RPC operation without the intended access restriction. Reaching the endpoint requires code execution in a Low Integrity context on the Windows host; the demonstrated consequence is unauthorized repair-action execution and integrity impact, not direct confidentiality loss or service interruption.
