Remote code execution via unsafe shell handlers
Published Feb 5, 2021 · Updated Aug 4, 2024
Remote code execution in Zulip Desktop before 5.0.0 allows remote attackers to execute native code through untrusted content. The desktop client passes attacker-influenced external targets and downloaded file paths to Electron shell.openExternal and shell.openItem, causing the operating system to launch them instead of only revealing downloaded files. The path is reachable when attacker-controlled content reaches a connected desktop client, and exploitation runs code with that client's privileges.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
