Device unlock via spoofed facial recognition
Published Mar 24, 2020 · Updated Aug 4, 2024
Improper authentication in Samsung Galaxy S8 and Note8 devices running Android 9 allows physically proximate attackers to unlock the device. The facial-recognition unlock logic accepts a spoofed face; Samsung added closed-eye detection and improved detection logic. Physical proximity to an enrolled, locked device is required, and successful spoofing grants access under the enrolled user's authentication context.
