Privilege escalation via application-specific email modification
Published Mar 23, 2020 · Updated Aug 4, 2024
Privilege escalation attributed to CodeIgniter through 4.0.0 allows remote authenticated users to gain roles via an email change. The referenced demonstration modifies an email identifier on an application's Select Role of the User page but identifies no framework code that processes it. Authenticated access to that custom application is required; CodeIgniter maintainers state that the framework supplies neither the page nor its user-management logic.
