Authenticated command execution via unrestricted cron jobs
Published Apr 21, 2020 · Updated Aug 4, 2024
Command execution in Vesta Control Panel 0.9.8-26 and earlier allows remote authenticated users to run arbitrary commands via cron jobs. The cron-task interface accepts any command or path without a whitelist and schedules it under the matching Linux system account. Any authenticated panel account can execute commands as its corresponding host user, and an administrator account can persist a backdoor.
