CVE-2020-10723

Host memory corruption via truncated vring index

Published May 19, 2020 · Updated Aug 4, 2024

Integer truncation in DPDK librte_vhost allows guest OS users to corrupt host memory through a crafted vhost-user payload index. The vhost_user_check_and_alloc_queue_pair() path narrows the untrusted payload index from an unsigned integer to uint16_t before bounds-based queue access. A high-privilege guest context and access to the host's vhost-user backend are required; successful triggering can corrupt memory and interrupt packet-processing service.
