Path traversal in Red Hat Ansible 2.9.x before 2.9.7 allows local users to overwrite files via ansible-galaxy collection install. The collection extractor creates directories and extracts tar members using archive-provided filenames without sanitizing traversal components, allowing a crafted collection archive to escape its destination path. Exploitation requires local access to run the installation command and can alter arbitrary files, with integrity and availability consequences but no demonstrated confidentiality impact.
