Application hang via unmatched JSON delimiters
Published Mar 19, 2020 · Updated Aug 4, 2024
Infinite-loop denial of service in buger jsonparser before 1.0.0 allows attackers to hang applications via malformed JSON passed to Delete. In findKeyStart, an unmatched opening bracket or brace makes blockEnd return -1, and the caller adds that value to its scan index without advancing past the delimiter. The hang occurs only when a consuming application calls Delete on attacker-controlled malformed JSON, consuming CPU and stalling that execution path.
