Local code execution via uncontrolled search path
Published Mar 25, 2020 · Updated Aug 4, 2024
Uncontrolled search path in ASUS Device Activation before 1.0.7.0 allows local users to execute unsigned code through DevActSvc.exe. DevActSvc.exe searches an uncontrolled path element and executes an attacker-supplied application matching a particular filename. Exploitation requires local access and write permission at the specific path, after which the service launches the placed code without signature restrictions.
