Unauthenticated SYSTEM code execution via unrestricted uploads
Published Apr 9, 2020 · Updated Aug 4, 2024
Unrestricted file upload in Advantech WebAccess/NMS before 3.0.2 allows remote attackers to execute code as SYSTEM without authentication. The saveBackground.action, FwUpgradeAction.action, extProgramAction.action, and ConfigRestoreAction.action handlers accept attacker-controlled filename or file elements without validating the uploaded file type or placement. No account or user interaction is required, and uploaded code executes with SYSTEM privileges on the Windows server.
