Root access via unrestricted persist-config command
Published Mar 14, 2020 · Updated Aug 4, 2024
Local privilege escalation in antiX and MX Linux allows local users to obtain root access through the persist-config utility. The Sudo configuration authorizes persist-config with elevated privileges without restricting its --command argument, so /bin/sh runs as root. A local account permitted to invoke the configured Sudo rule is required, and successful exploitation grants full root control.
