SYSTEM privilege escalation via writable service executable
Published Apr 9, 2020 · Updated Aug 4, 2024
Improper access control in Tencent QQBrowser before 10.5.3870.400 allows local users to execute code as NT AUTHORITY\SYSTEM. The installer assigns TsService.exe an ACL that lets NT AUTHORITY\Authenticated Users replace the executable launched by the TxQBService Windows service. Any authenticated Windows account can substitute a malicious binary, and the payload runs with SYSTEM privileges when the service starts after a reboot.
