LocalSystem code execution via writable service path
Published Apr 2, 2020 · Updated Aug 4, 2024
Local privilege escalation in STARFACE UCC Client before 6.7.1.204 allows local users to execute code as Windows LocalSystem. StarfaceUccApiRegistryService grants interactive users permission to change its executable path, then launches that path through UccApiRegistryService.exe as LocalSystem. Any locally logged-on unprivileged user can replace the service binary path and restart the service, gaining administrative control of the host.
