Unauthenticated code execution via unrestricted function callback
Published Mar 9, 2020 · Updated Aug 4, 2024
Remote code execution in ThemeREX Addons for WordPress before 2020-03-09 allows remote attackers to invoke PHP functions through a REST request. The trx_addons_rest_get_sc_layout callback passes the untrusted sc parameter to function_exists and then invokes the named function with request parameters. The endpoint performs no capability or nonce check, so an unauthenticated visitor can create an administrator account and take over the site.
