Administrator-level SQL injection via uncast menu parameter
Published Mar 16, 2020 · Updated Aug 4, 2024
SQL injection in Joomla! CMS 1.7.0 through 3.9.15 allows remote authenticated users to execute SQL via Featured Articles menu parameters. The menu editor stores a crafted featured_categories value without integer casting, and the frontend later incorporates it into a SQL statement. Administrator access is required to set the crafted parameter, and resulting database access remains bounded by the Joomla database account's privileges.
