Virus-detection bypass via manipulated RAR compression metadata
Published Mar 6, 2020 · Updated Aug 4, 2024
Interpretation conflict in ESET Archive Support Module before 1294 allows remote attackers to bypass virus detection with crafted RAR archives. Manipulated RAR Compression Information lets embedded content remain accessible while the antivirus parser cannot scan it and labels the archive clean. Exploitation requires delivery of a crafted RAR archive; the bypass exposes embedded content without detection but does not itself execute that content.
