Virus-detection bypass via crafted BZ2 checksum
Published Mar 5, 2020 · Updated Aug 4, 2024
Virus-detection bypass in ESET Archive Support Module before 1294 allows remote attackers to conceal content in crafted BZ2 archives. The parser accepts a manipulated BZ2 checksum field, cannot inspect the container, and labels the archive clean although an end user can open it. No authentication is required; opening or executing the concealed content is separate from the scan bypass and determines downstream impact.
