Authenticated command execution via ping parameter
Published Mar 5, 2020 · Updated Aug 4, 2024
OS command injection in Comtrend VR-3033 firmware DE11-416SSG-C01_R02.A2pvI042j1.d26m allows remote authenticated users to execute commands. The ping.cgi diagnostic handler passes a pingIpAddress value containing shell metacharacters into an OS command without neutralization. Minimum-privilege web-interface access is sufficient, enabling command execution with the router service's permissions and compromise of the device and managed network.
