Code execution via unbounded UpdateHub hash copy
Published May 11, 2020 · Updated Sep 16, 2024
Buffer overflow in Zephyr RTOS 2.1.0 and 2.2.0 allows remote attackers to corrupt memory via a malformed UpdateHub JSON response. The UpdateHub parser copies a variable-length firmware hash string from received metadata into a fixed-size array without enforcing its bound. Reachability requires UpdateHub to process server-supplied metadata; the overflow can crash the device or enable code execution.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
