CVE-2020-0935

Local privilege escalation via symbolic links

Published Apr 15, 2020 · Updated Aug 4, 2024

Elevation of privilege in Microsoft OneDrive for Windows before 19.232.1124.0010 allows local users to overwrite files through symbolic links. The OneDrive updater performs file writes with elevation without correctly preventing a filename from resolving through a symbolic link to an unintended target. Exploitation requires a user logged on to Windows who can run a specially crafted application; successful exploitation can overwrite or delete targeted files with elevated status, enabling privilege escalation.
