Remote code execution via AVI buffer overrun
Published Mar 12, 2020 · Updated Aug 4, 2024
Out-of-bounds write in Microsoft Windows Media Foundation allows remote attackers to execute code through a crafted AVI file. The AVI parser insufficiently validates user-supplied data and writes past the end of an allocated buffer during media processing. Exploitation requires a user to visit a malicious page or open the file, and resulting code runs in the current process context.
