Privilege escalation in Microsoft Windows allows local users to gain elevated rights through predictable memory section names. The memory-section implementation assigns names predictably where uniqueness is required, allowing a low-privileged process to anticipate a privileged section name. Exploitation requires prior low-privileged code execution on the target; success crosses the local privilege boundary and permits execution with elevated rights.
