Local privilege escalation via SoundTrigger buffer race
Published Jun 11, 2020 · Updated Aug 4, 2024
Out-of-bounds write in Android 10 SoundTriggerHwService allows local users to escalate privileges through a race condition. The service reuses caller-controlled sound-model memory across a time-of-check/time-of-use window, allowing concurrent modification after validation to produce an out-of-bounds write. A locally running application needs no additional execution privileges or user interaction; successful exploitation raises its privileges on the device.
