Remote code execution via HEVC count overflow
Published Jun 11, 2020 · Updated Aug 4, 2024
Out-of-bounds write in Android 10's media framework allows remote attackers to execute code through a crafted HEVC file. ihevcd_parse_slice_header adds num_long_term_pics to reference-picture counts using a narrow integer, allowing overflow to bypass the decoded-picture-buffer limit before indexed writes. Exploitation requires user interaction but no additional execution privileges, and successful corruption grants code execution in the decoder process.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
