CVE-2020-0173Network attack vector

Media extractor hang via malformed DLS chunks

Published Jun 11, 2020 · Updated Aug 4, 2024

Resource exhaustion in Android 10's MIDI extractor allows remote attackers to hang media extraction through a crafted MIDI file. Parse_lins in eas_mdls.c processes attacker-controlled DLS instrument chunks without adequate validation, allowing malformed chunk data to keep the extractor in a very long or infinite loop. Exploitation requires user interaction to process the crafted file, and the resulting consequence is interruption of the media extractor service.
