Media extractor hang via unchecked RTTTL parsing
Published Jun 11, 2020 · Updated Aug 4, 2024
Denial of service in Android 10's RTTTL media parser allows remote attackers to hang media extraction through a crafted MIDI file. RTTTL_Event in eas_rtttl.c omits a bounds check while processing attacker-controlled ringtone data, permitting an infinite or extremely long loop. Exploitation requires no privileges but requires a user to process the crafted file; the bounded impact is interruption of the media extractor service.
