Local privilege escalation via unchecked NFC HAL write
Published Jun 11, 2020 · Updated Aug 4, 2024
Out-of-bounds write in Android 10's NXP NFC HAL allows local users with System privileges to escalate privileges without interaction. phNxpNciHal_write_ext in phNxpNciHal_ext.cc fails to check bounds before writing, allowing the write to pass the destination buffer boundary. System-level code execution is required; no user interaction is needed, and the resulting privilege level is not publicly identified.
