Local privilege escalation via Bluetooth bounds error
Published Jun 11, 2020 · Updated Aug 4, 2024
An out-of-bounds write in Android 10 Bluetooth advertising allows local users to escalate privileges without user interaction. The SetData routine in btm_ble_multi_adv.cc searches advertising data for a TX Power field while reading element bytes without sufficient remaining-length checks. A malicious local application needs no additional execution privileges and can corrupt memory in the privileged Bluetooth System component.
