CVE-2020-0072

NFC code execution via unchecked lock TLV index

Published Apr 17, 2020 · Updated Aug 4, 2024

Out-of-bounds write in Android 8.0, 8.1, 9, and 10 allows physically proximate attackers to execute code in the NFC daemon via a crafted NFC tag. rw_t2t_handle_tlv_detect_rsp increments num_lock_tlvs and uses it to index the fixed-size lock_tlv array without enforcing RW_T2T_MAX_LOCK_TLVS. An NFC-enabled device must process the malicious Type 2 Tag; no user interaction or existing execution privileges are required, and successful exploitation runs code in the privileged NFC service.
