Local privilege escalation via certificate-dialog overlay
Published Feb 13, 2020 · Updated Aug 4, 2024
Tapjacking in Android 8.0 through 10 allows local users to gain additional privileges by overlaying the certificate installation dialog. CertInstaller.java's onCreate displays the installation prompt without preventing a malicious application from placing a deceptive window over it. Exploitation requires the user to interact with the obscured dialog, after which the malicious application gains elevated privileges without additional execution privileges.
