Unauthenticated file read via path traversal
Published Sep 17, 2021 · Updated Aug 4, 2024
Path traversal in CMS Made Simple 2.2.8 allows remote attackers to read arbitrary files through the CGExtensions module. The action.setdefaulttemplate.php handler accepts a crafted m1_filename path, and action.showmessage.php then returns file content when m1_prefname is cg_errormsg with m1_resettodefault=1. No authentication is required, so internet- or intranet-reachable installations expose local files readable by the web process.
