CVE-2019-5183Public exploitNetwork attack vector

Guest-to-host code execution via vtable type confusion

Published Jan 25, 2020 · Updated Aug 4, 2024

Type confusion in AMD Radeon Graphics Driver 26.20.13031.10003, 26.20.13031.15006, and 26.20.13031.18002 allows guest OS users to execute host code. ATIDXX64.DLL's pixel-shader compiler accepts crafted shader operations that exceed legitimate vtable bounds and dispatch an attacker-influenced method. The demonstrated path requires user-mode access in a Windows 10 x64 VMware guest and executes in vmware-vmx.exe on the host; WebGL reachability is theoretical.
