Root command execution via unsanitized gateway value
Published Mar 11, 2020 · Updated Aug 4, 2024
OS command injection in the iocheckd service of WAGO PFC200 firmware 03.02.02(14) allows local users to execute commands as root. iocheckd interpolates the gateway element from globally writable /tmp/iocheckCache.xml into a config_default_gateway command with sprintf(), then passes it to system(). Exploitation requires local access to plant the XML cache file and a BC_SaveParameter packet to trigger parsing, yielding root-level command execution.
