Host process crash via malformed MOVC shader operand
Published Jan 25, 2020 · Updated Aug 4, 2024
Out-of-bounds read in AMD Radeon Graphics Driver 26.20.13003.1007 allows guest OS users to crash the VMware host via a malformed pixel shader. ATIDXX64.DLL accepts a sampler operand in a MOVC instruction, turns it into index 0xffffffff, and dereferences memory outside the intended array. The demonstrated path requires a compromised Windows guest using VMware Workstation Pro with AMD GPU access; the bounded result is a vmware-vmx.exe access-violation crash.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
