CVE-2019-5146Network attack vector

Host crash via malformed MAD pixel shader

Published Jan 25, 2020 · Updated Aug 4, 2024

Out-of-bounds read in AMD Radeon Software 19.10.1 allows attackers to crash a VMware host via a malformed guest pixel shader. ATIDXX64.DLL mishandles a crafted MAD instruction in the pixel-shader compilation path and performs an out-of-bounds read. Exploitation requires control of a Windows guest in VMware Workstation 15 with a host using the affected Radeon driver; the bounded result is a host-side crash.
