Authenticated root shell via hidden console string
Published Feb 25, 2020 · Updated Aug 4, 2024
Improper access control in Moxa AWK-3131A firmware 1.13 allows remote authenticated users to gain a root shell through iw_console. iw_console compares a menu selection against a hard-coded backdoor string and invokes the system shell when the value matches. A low-privilege Telnet or SSH account is required, after which the hidden selection grants unrestricted root-level device access.
