CVE-2019-5124Public exploitNetwork attack vector

Host crash via out-of-range shader buffer reference

Published Jan 25, 2020 · Updated Aug 4, 2024

Out-of-bounds read in AMD Radeon DirectX 11 Driver 26.20.13001.50005 allows attackers to crash the VMware host via a crafted pixel shader. A DIV instruction can reference beyond its declared DCL_CONSTANT_BUFFER, leaving memcpy with a NULL source in ATIDXX64.DLL. Exploitation requires shader execution from a compromised Windows guest under VMware Workstation with an AMD GPU or APU, and the demonstrated result is a vmware-vmx.exe crash.
