Privilege escalation via cron symlink race
Published Feb 28, 2020 · Updated Sep 16, 2024
Nagios on SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 11/12 and openSUSE Factory allows local attackers to escalate privileges via a cron-job symlink race. The /etc/cron.weekly/nagios script follows attacker-controlled symbolic links while writing or rotating Nagios files, allowing a winning race to redirect privileged file operations. Local users able to manipulate the cron-job file targets can obtain root-level file effects or cause denial of service; no remote trigger is described.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
