Published Jun 10, 2020 · Updated Sep 16, 2024
Privilege escalation in McAfee VirusScan Enterprise 8.8 before Patch 14 allows local users to interact with an elevated threat-alert window. McTray.exe runs the On-Access Scan Messages - Threat Alert Window with elevated privileges while allowing a local user to interact with its controls. Exploitation requires local access and user interaction with the tray alert, after which the exposed elevated interface grants privileges beyond the user's account.
