Unauthorized data access via external XML resolution
Published Apr 23, 2019 · Updated Jan 12, 2026
XXE in Oracle BI Publisher allows remote attackers to read or alter accessible data via unauthenticated HTTP requests. The ReportTemplateService.xls endpoint parses submitted XML with external DTD resolution enabled, allowing an attacker-controlled DOCTYPE to trigger a server-side request. Exploitation requires HTTP access but no credentials or user interaction; Oracle bounds the impact to disclosure and modification of some accessible data.
