SYSTEM code execution via unquoted service path
Published Feb 6, 2026 · Updated Feb 6, 2026
Privilege escalation in ALPS ALPINE CO., LTD. Alps HID Monitor Service 8.1.0.10 allows local users to execute code as SYSTEM. ApHidMonitorService registers C:\Program Files\Apoint2K\HidMonitorSvc.exe without quotation marks, causing Windows to treat earlier path components as executable candidates. Exploitation requires write access to an earlier-resolved path and a service start; the selected executable then runs as LocalSystem.
