Unauthenticated stored XSS via unrestricted option updates

Published Oct 16, 2024 · Updated Apr 8, 2026

Stored XSS in Starfish Reviews Rich Reviews 1.7.4 and earlier allows remote attackers to inject scripts via unauthenticated option updates. The RichReviews class checks for the POST body update parameter on every request, then writes other submitted option values without access control or adequate sanitization. Any remote request can alter display-text options, and the stored script runs for visitors and logged-in administrators, enabling defacement, redirects, or malicious content delivery.
