CVE-2019-25061Network attack vector

Password prediction via noncryptographic random character selection

Published May 18, 2022 · Updated Aug 5, 2024

Insecure randomness in random_password_generator 1.0.0 and earlier allows attackers to predict passwords generated by the Ruby gem. The generate method builds an allowed-character array, then selects every password character with Kernel#rand through rand(chars.size), a noncryptographic cyclic PRNG. Exposure requires a consuming application to use the output as a password; successful prediction reveals that credential.
