Unauthenticated role disclosure via unchecked GraphQL filtering
Published May 9, 2022 · Updated Aug 5, 2024
Improper access control in WPGraphQL before 0.3.5 allows remote attackers to disclose WordPress users' account roles via GraphQL queries. The users connection resolver accepts a role filter without verifying that the requester has the WordPress list_users capability. No authentication is required; a crafted query can enumerate users by privileged roles, including identifying administrator accounts.
