Data disclosure via unrecognized _bsontype serialization
Published Mar 31, 2020 · Updated Aug 4, 2024
Deserialization in MongoDB BSON 1.1.3 and earlier allows remote authenticated users to disclose data via crafted JSON input. The serializer silently accepts an object with an unrecognized _bsontype value and encodes it as a generic document instead of its intended BSON type. Reachability requires an application to pass attacker-controlled object data into the library; the documented consequence is unexpected behavior, including data disclosure.
