Local privilege escalation via hidden overlay notifications
Published Mar 15, 2020 · Updated Aug 4, 2024
Improper input validation in Android 10 Framework allows local users to gain elevated privileges through a hidden overlay notification. Framework overlay-notification handling improperly validates input, allowing the warning that identifies an overlaying app to be hidden. Exploitation requires user execution privileges and user interaction; the concealed warning enables the overlaying app to obtain elevated privileges.
