Authenticated post tampering concealed by missing edit marker
Published Jun 19, 2020 · Updated Aug 5, 2024
Improper post-update validation in Mattermost Server before 5.10.0 allows remote authenticated users to conceal an attachment change. Mattermost has not published the specific post-update check that fails to treat a file-ID change as an edit. An authenticated post author must replace a post's file ID; the visible history cue is suppressed, enabling deceptive attachment substitution.
