Authenticated private-channel modification via missing membership check
Published Jun 19, 2020 · Updated Aug 5, 2024
Missing authorization in Mattermost Server before 5.10.0, 5.9.1, 5.8.2, and 4.10.9 allows remote authenticated users to alter private channels. The Update and Patch Channel API handlers apply changes to a private channel without first confirming that the requesting user belongs to it. A valid server account and the target channel identifier are required; exploitation changes channel metadata but does not disclose messages or interrupt service.
