Administrative access via unauthorized-response session cookie
Published Mar 2, 2020 · Updated Aug 5, 2024
Authentication bypass in NETGEAR WNR1000V4 firmware 1.1.0.54 allows remote attackers to compromise the router through setup.cgi. The handler issues a session cookie with a 401 response to an unauthenticated FW_remote.htm&todo=cfg_init request, then accepts the repeated request with that cookie. The attack requires network access to the management interface or a malicious webpage that can reach it, and grants administrative access to the device.
