Unauthenticated server panic via unchecked lock count
Published Jan 27, 2020 · Updated Aug 5, 2024
Out-of-bounds access in Lustre before 2.12.3 allows remote attackers to panic a server with a crafted client packet. The ldlm_cancel_hpreq_check function uses the packet's lock_count field without checking its bounds, permitting an out-of-range access in the ptlrpc module. The service interruption requires network access as a Lustre client but requires no authentication or user interaction; no data disclosure or modification is reported.
